Brand Design
Brand design is the process of creating and communicating a brand identity that authentically reflects an organisation's culture and values to its candidates, team members and customers. It is a powerful tool for building alignment, strengthening retention, increasing engagement and turning people into genuine brand ambassadors, creating a positive, authentic and consistent organisational culture.
By exploring the values and culture of the organisations I work with, I naturally found myself drawn into the fascinating world of brand design. The goal is to create an identity that genuinely reflects the organisation’s purpose, culture and values.
Creating alignment between the expectations of candidates and customers is essential. Brand design becomes a strategic tool for developing a visual and verbal identity that resonates, attracts and engages. It builds a bridge between the organisation’s internal values and the expectations of the people it wants to attract and serve, helping create a brand that is both authentic and compelling.
Brand design and brand identity
Brand design helps bring a brand to life while ensuring consistency between the inside and the outside of the organisation, between the employee experience and the customer experience. To support this process, I developed a card deck called Brand Storming. This practical tool not only helps organisations communicate more effectively with candidates, team members and customers, but also build lasting connections with them.
Brand Storming is a creative and collaborative approach that encourages participation across the organisation. Using the cards, teams explore the different dimensions of their brand and define a clear identity, positioning and brand promise. It is an effective way to ensure that every brand message remains consistent and resonates with the intended audience.
Ultimately, a strong and consistent brand is essential for creating an emotional connection with current and future customers as well as team members. That connection helps organisations stand out from competitors, attract and retain outstanding talent, and build a resilient, sustainable business.
Using brand design
Attracting talent
Brand design can be used to build a compelling employer brand that authentically reflects the organisation’s culture and values. This helps attract candidates who share those values and are therefore more likely to thrive within the organisation.
Improving employee retention
By ensuring that brand messages remain consistent throughout every stage of the employee journey, from recruitment and onboarding to professional development, organisations create an environment where team members feel valued and understood, strengthening long-term retention.
Increasing employee engagement
Using brand design to communicate organisational values and involving team members in sharing the brand story strengthens engagement and encourages people to become genuine brand ambassadors.
Learning and development
Brand design can also shape learning and development programmes that align with the organisation’s values. When training reflects the company’s culture and identity, it reinforces a sense of belonging while encouraging people to develop their skills within that cultural framework.
Managing diversity and inclusion
By using brand design to highlight an inclusive and diverse organisational culture, businesses can attract a broader range of candidates and create a workplace where everyone feels respected, valued and included. Brand design also provides a powerful way to communicate diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives by making these values visible and authentic throughout the organisation.
